The COVID-19 recession has been brutally, unforgivingly unfair. Workers in relatively insecure, low-wage jobs suffered by far the worst impacts in lost jobs, lost hours, and lost incomes: including young people, women, immigrants and racialized workers, and workers in part-time, temporary, and other forms of non-standard work. This presentation reviews the uneven impacts of the COVID-19 recession, the causes and consequences of that inequality, and proposes key principles for alleviating the unfair burden.
