You’re leaving FREE MONEY on the table in Iceland ????????
Iceland isn't cheap — but you can get money BACK ???? Here's exactly how:
What Is Tax-Free Shopping?
Iceland adds 24% VAT to almost everything you buy. If you’re NOT an Iceland resident, you can claim a portion of that tax back when you take your purchases home with you. It’s NOT a scam — it’s your legal right as a visitor! ✅
Who Qualifies?
• ✅ Non-Iceland residents (tourists, visitors)
• ✅ Single-receipt spend: min. 12,000 ISK (~€84 / $95)
• ✅ Goods must be unused and taken out of Iceland within 3 months
• ❌ Services, meals, accommodation = NOT eligible
Step-by-Step
1️⃣ At checkout — say: "Can you please fill out a tax free form?" → shop gives you a form + attaches your receipt
2️⃣ Keep everything — form, receipt, passport, goods (don't pack them deep!)
3️⃣ At Keflavík Airport — BEFORE check-in:
• Go to Change Group / Refund Desk
• Get your form stamped (under 100k ISK = Change Group; over = Customs)
• Show goods + passport
4️⃣ Get your refund!
How Much Do You Actually Get?
• Full VAT = 24%
• Actual refund ≈ 12%–14% (fees deducted)
• Example: Spend €300 - get ~€40+ back!
That covers a nice dinner or your bus ride
Don't Forget:
• Original receipt MUST be attached
• Form MUST be signed by the shop
• Get the stamp BEFORE you go through security!
• Lost your form? You lose your refund
Save this reel for your departure day — you’ll thank me later!
Drop a ???????? if you’re heading to Iceland soon!
