Poland Buys Three Swedish A26 Submarines in $4.8 Billion Deal

Poland has signed a $4.8 billion contract with Sweden's Saab to acquire three A26 submarines, ending a submarine procurement program that lasted more than a decade. Designed specifically for operations in the Baltic Sea, the A26 features air-independent propulsion, advanced stealth technology, and a multi-mission portal capable of deploying underwater drones.

The first submarine is scheduled for delivery in 2031, with the final boat arriving in 2038. To maintain its submarine capability in the meantime, Poland will lease a Swedish Navy submarine beginning in August. This agreement marks one of the largest naval modernization programs in Europe and significantly strengthens Poland's underwater warfare capabilities.
