We took Rødne Fjord Cruise from Strandkaien in Stavanger. The ticket cost 65 EUR per person.
Stand in the queue in advance. After entering go to the left hand side of the boat as all points on the itinerary are on the left hand side.
We saw 3 cruise ships on all 3 days we were in Stavanger and the town got really crowded.
As most cruise ships leave after 4 PM, we booked the fjord cruise at 2:30 PM to escape the crowd.
The fjord cruise takes 3.5 hours to complete.
We saw Stavanger Bridge and Salmon fish farms on the way.
We started getting the fjord view in the background around 30 mins into the cruise.
As the Ryfast Tunnel cut travel times down to just 20–25 minutes, this area (Solbakk and Jørpeland) have seen a real estate boom as wealthy oil-industry workers rushed to buy up large waterfront properties.
The name Lysefjord (or Lysefjorden in Norwegian) literally translates to "The Light Fjord" or "Fjord of Light." As is clear, the left hand side rocks are lighter than the ones on the right.
The scenary inside the fjord was truly breathtaking. We saw few kayakers near Vagabond cave. Vagabond’s Cave (known locally as Fantahålå) is a hidden, narrow rock cleft and cove tucked into the steep mountain walls. You can snap close-up photos of the sheer cliffs as the ship takes you directly inside this dramatic, shadowy crack.
The mountain goats, named Gunnar and Sigve, are a famous and beloved highlight of the Lysefjord cruise. As soon as they hear a catamaran or RIB speedboat, they run down the rocks to the water's edge, knowing the crew is about to hand-feed them fresh carrots and bread.
Preikestolen (known as Pulpit Rock) is a cliff that towers 604 meters (1,982 feet) over the Lysefjord.
It features an incredibly flat, naturally square top measuring roughly 25 by 25 meters, making it one of Norway’s most iconic and visited natural tourist attractions.
Hengjanefossen is the iconic waterfall on the Lysefjord. It is also known as "The Whisky Waterfall."
The captain will nose the front of the boat right into the wet mist beneath the crashing waterfall.
