Everyone says go to the Blue Lagoon. Stacey Ray went about 45 minutes north of Reykjavik instead, to Hvammsvik Hot Springs: eight natural pools right on the Atlantic, and some of them change temperature with the tide.

Here's what the classic package got her (about $94 a person when she went in May), why water shoes aren't optional, the shower rule every first-timer should know, and the seafood soup she's still thinking about.

Plus the one rule that catches people out: once you leave the pool area, you can't go back in. And her honest 4.5 out of 5 rating.
