Tonight we are all on the same ship, and it matters enormously where on it you are standing.

We start seven decks down, in third class, which was not the dungeon you have been shown. It was clean, it was new, the food was better than most of the passengers ate at home, and the ticket cost a labouring man something like ten weeks of his life. You'll hear what the crossing actually involved for the people who made up most of it — and what really happened to them on the last night, which is a sadder and more ordinary story than locked gates.

Then we go up, to the Grand Staircase and the Turkish bath and a restaurant that charged extra inside a ship you'd already paid a fortune to board.

And we finish at the bottom, with the black gang — the firemen, trimmers and greasers who shovelled six hundred tons of coal a day in the dark and never once saw the ocean, so that everyone above them could.

Told slowly, in a low voice, over gentle fire crackle — made for sleep, study, night shifts, and quiet company at 3 a.m.

No jump scares. No loud intros. No chapters to skip. If you fall asleep halfway through, that's the idea.

Every episode is researched from primary and academic sources — inquiry transcripts, sworn testimony, and the contested claims are named as contested, not repeated as fact.

New stories every week. Dim the lights, get comfortable.
