After hundreds of nautical miles, endless fjords, and more cinnamon buns than I’ll ever admit, we’re sailing all the way to the top of Norway — past Tromsø, through the Arctic Circle, and into a world of mountains, lighthouses, and surreal golden light. ????????❄️

This next leg aboard the Hurtigruten Coastal Express takes us deep into Norway’s wild north — part ferry, part cargo ship, and a lifeline for the tiny communities that dot this dramatic coastline.

We explore Ålesund’s fairytale streets, wander Urke Valley (population 50!), hike to mountaintop saunas in Honningsvåg, and cross into the Arctic with a splash — literally. Expect fjords, fine dining, hot tubs with views, a RIB safari, and that slow, quiet magic that makes Hurtigruten unlike anything else.

This is Episode 2 of our three-part Hurtigruten series, and part of The Three of Us — my travel project with my parents, ticking off bucket-list adventures around Europe together. ????

???? This video includes:
• Sailing north aboard the MS Richard With, Hurtigruten’s hybrid ship ????
• Exploring Ålesund, Urke, Trondheim, Bodø, Tromsø & beyond
• The Arctic Circle ceremony (and Dad getting soaked ????)
• RIB safari through the Saltstraumen whirlpools
• Fine dining at sea + a full ship tour
• Late-night sunsets that feel like another planet ????

???? Thinking about sailing with Hurtigruten?
Our voyage was kindly hosted by Hurtigruten — huge thanks to their team for letting us experience this iconic route firsthand! All opinions (and awkward family moments) are our own.

Hej hej from the rails (and boats)! I’m Chloé — a Kiwi travel creator exploring the world one awkward train moment at a time. My husband Ludvig (dry humour, Swedish passport) joins when he can. Together, we seek out the quirkiest journeys, comfiest cabins, and always squeeze in a touch of luxury when we can (okay, that part’s mostly my idea ????). We’re all about making travel fun, relatable, and a little bit weird — with a side of scenic magic.????

Some links are affiliate, which means we might earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you). It helps keep the adventures going — and pays for coffee when the train café runs out of it. And honestly? Every time you use one, it triggers a little happy dance on my end. ???? So thank you!
