Van life in northern Spain doesn’t always mean sunshine. This week, a powerful Atlantic storm hit Cabreces, Asturias, keeping us locked inside our converted VW campervan for over 24 hours.

In this episode, we share the realities of full-time van life during extreme weather — how we cope, what we do when travel plans stop, and why slowing down can sometimes lead to the best experiences.

Once the storm passed, we explored the beautiful Asturian coastline, went for coastal runs and walks through the countryside, and discovered a small local village festival with some incredible traditional Spanish food.

We’re now in our fourth year of living and travelling full time in our VW van, documenting the highs, lows, and unexpected moments of life on the road.

We are the Cookes, Nicola, and Nigel. We love to travel. In 2018 we bought and converted a VW Transporter van and spent 3 years traveling around the UK and Ireland. At the time we also travelled with our beloved cat, Guinness. She was 20. Sadly we lost Guinness in Feb of 2020 and then well the rest of the world went to pot.

Early 2023 we sold our property back in Ireland and hit the road full time. Since then we have visited 23 different countries in the van including Norway, Greece, Slovenia and Estonia.

This channel will primarily focus on our travels, with the odd smattering of photography and food thrown in for good measure.
