Norway found oil under the sea in 1969 — and decided to save it. Today its fund is worth more than two trillion dollars, almost every new car is electric, anyone can look up what their neighbour earns, and showing off is close to a sin.
In this documentary we travel the whole length of modern Norway: the oil fund and the Law of Jante, the welfare state, Oslo, Stavanger and Preikestolen, Bergen and the Sognefjord, stave churches, Geiranger, Trollstigen and the Atlantic Ocean Road, Trolltunga, Trondheim, the midnight sun and the polar night, Lofoten, Tromsø and the northern lights — all the way to Svalbard, where people say you are not allowed to die. And the hard side too: prices, housing, and the oil paradox.
