In this episode I take the ferry from Reenard Point to Knightstown on Valentia Island Co Kerry.

On the Island we go to visit the Cable Station belonging to the worlds first trans Atlantic telecommunications cable laid by the ship The Great Eastern in 1866 establishing a link between North America and Europe making it a major point for global communications.
We also go to see where the cable made land from Hearts Content in Newfoundland to Valentia Island.
We go to see the Valentia Island Weather station and the amazing 350 million year old Tetrapod footprints before heading up to the Valentia Slate Mine.
then I make my way across the spine of the upper road of the Island past Geokaun Mountain and down to Bray head with the stunning views over to the mighty and Historic Unesco world heritage site of Skellig Michael where Luke Skywalker has been hiding out in the newer Star Wars Movies.
Not only is Valentia full of history but its in my opinion one of the highlights of the Ring of Kerry

Thanks for watching !!
